The church was built in Anacapri on the initiative of Mother Serafina di Dio, to an architectural design attributed to Antonio Domenico Vaccaio.

The church's altars are also of great interest, as is its collection of paintings, and its long history in general.

The imposing High Altar is of marble while the side altars have a marble effect but are in fact wooden. The works of a number of eminent 18th century Neapolitan artists adorn the walls.

The Lay Congregation of the Immaculate Conception is now resposible for its preservation and maintenance.
