The magnificent floor dates from 1761 and is the work of Leonardo Chiaiese, one of the most important Abruzzo maiolica artesans working in Naples at the time.

The prospect of Adam and Eve being driven from the Garden of Eden appears to be of little interest to the animals, not even to the legendary unicorn. The animals graze on as if nothing were happening. There are clumps of grass, trees and cool, clear streams — elements of 18th century Neapolitan crib scenes which add a vibrant lyrical element and considerable dynamic tone.

Viewing the floor from the organ balcony, the colours, somewhat flat when seen from below, take on a brightness and luminosity, and the scene assumes a more rounded perspective.
